CFP Mailer with Medical Grade Thermoformed Insert


This week, our team engineered a custom medical grade thermoformed insert to fit into one of our Conductive Fluted Plastic (CFP) mailers. Our customer had a very oddly shaped device that had three raised features that needed physical protection during shipping and handling procedures. We designed a thermoformed tray and cover with permanent ESD properties that would hold the device in place, but not touch any of the fragile areas of the device. This thermoformed tray is made out of our medical / cleanroom grade material and features permanent ESD properties. This material can be washed with IPA wipes. This tray was designed to fit inside of a permanently conductive fluted plastic mailer. We laminated foam to the top and bottom of the mailer to provide cushioning should the package be handled roughly. Our engineers focused on our customer’s needs to protect the critical features of this device, and created a sustainable solution that will hold up to the test of time.


This is an example of a complete ESD package. Our customer can be sure that these devices are safe form ESD and physical damage in shipping and handling environments moving forward.

Extra Long DuraStat Tote

 This week's featured design is something that you do not see everyday - a DuraStat Tote that is taller than a person!


This tote uses our stock DuraStat design and alters the dimensions to create a custom application specific to our customer's needs. The customer needed a packaging design that had very little Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and would allow for safe transport and storage of wire assemblies. As you can imagine, these assemblies were very thin but very long. Our DuraStat design uses Conductive Fluted Plastic (CFP) material combined with aluminum rails bring rigidity to the design - even at these lengths. The corner stackers provide the opportunity to stack the totes for efficient storage and better organization of the assemblies. These thin, long assemblies will be protected permanently from ESD and kept safe from physical damage in our well-constructed totes.

CCI Introduces Tom Lowder to the Plastics Design Engineering Team



Meet CCI's newest Plastics Design Engineering team member, Tom Lowder.

Tom is a gradute from Iowa State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Tom gained valuable engineering experience working as an intern overseas for a construction company in Singapore. Efficiency, creativity, and a detail-oriented mindset are just a few of the traits that Tom brings to our plastics design team. Outside of work, Tom enjoys being active and outdoors. Mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking and golfing are just a few of the outdoor hobbies that Tom spends his time on. We look forward to seeing more engineered solutions from Tom and the rest of the plastics design engineering team.
